About us

The World Organization for Peace (WOFP), known in Spanish as Organización Mundial por la Paz (OMPP), is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting peaceful dialogue, tolerance and a culture of peace.

History

The organization began to take shape in 1990, under the name Organization for Peace, as a humanitarian programme driven by people who contributed voluntarily to a work for peace. Between 1991 and 1999 it developed its first programmes: books with peace messages from the heads of state of United Nations member countries, more than a hundred interfaith meetings, and mediation in favour of understanding between peoples.

Since 2000 it has used its current name in several languages: Organización Mundial por la Paz, Organisation Mondiale pour la Paix, Organizzazione Mondiale per la Pace and World Organization for Peace. Its founding charter was signed on 6 August 2005 in Geneva, Switzerland, next to the Peace Bell, and it was registered in the Canton of Geneva in February 2006.
