On 6 August 2005 the founding charter of the World Organization for Peace (OMPP · WOFP) was signed in Geneva, Switzerland. The ceremony took place in the Peace Bell square, next to the United Nations building.

As a symbol of the commitment undertaken, the bell rang 365 times: once for every day of the year devoted to peace. The founding members signed the charter there and pledged to act as permanent guardians of the organization’s mission.

From Organization for Peace to OMPP · WOFP

The signing closed a stage that began in 1990 with the Organization for Peace, which during the 1990s developed the books of peace messages from heads of state, more than a hundred interfaith meetings and mediation in favour of understanding between peoples. Since 2000 the organization has used its name in four languages: Organización Mundial por la Paz, Organisation Mondiale pour la Paix, Organizzazione Mondiale per la Pace and World Organization for Peace.

In February 2006, after several amendments to its statutes, OMPP · WOFP was registered in the Canton of Geneva, where it has been registered ever since.
