Video: Viña del Mar, World City of Peace

On 20 February 2007, the World Organization for Peace (OMPP · WOFP) named Viña del Mar, Chile, a World City of Peace. Its mayor received the distinction and became an honorary ambassador for peace.

Every year, OMPP’s Council of Communicators and its Supreme Interfaith Council choose a World City of Peace, which becomes a model for others in its commitment to a culture of peace. Viña del Mar received the title after Lugano, Switzerland, designated in 2006. These two videos record the ceremony, led by OMPP President Carlos Peralta.

Part one

It includes remarks by Carlos Peralta and the presentation of the distinction to the mayor, in the presence of representatives of different faiths. Peralta also refers to the organization’s projects, such as the universities for peace and a university in Amman, Jordan, designed for coexistence between Palestinians and Israelis. It closes with a musical performance. Length: 5:17.

Part two

It continues with an explanation of what the designation means, a religious reflection on peace, thanks on behalf of the city and statements to the press. Length: 2:53.

Both videos were published on OMPP’s channel on 25 July 2011. Audio in Spanish.
