The World Organization for Peace (OMPP · WOFP), chaired by Argentine Carlos Peralta, has issued a new international appeal for the leaders of the major powers to drive urgent negotiations that prevent a global military escalation and open a path to stable peace in the war between Russia and Ukraine.

The appeal, released under the title “Diplomatic efforts to achieve world peace”, is addressed to US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The organization believes these four leaders are in a position today to ease the fronts of conflict and to keep the war from turning into a worldwide confrontation with nuclear risk.

A demand voiced from 185 nations

“The world’s population demands peace,” Peralta said. The organization has secretaries general in 185 nations and receives daily expressions of concern from citizens on every continent, with a shared request: stop the war, prevent a nuclear escalation, and have the great powers take up their responsibility.

The organization proposes bringing India into the concerted efforts among powers, given its demographic, economic and military weight and the channels of dialogue it keeps with all sides.

The 2014 precedent

OMPP recalls that in 2014, during the initial crisis between Russia and Ukraine, it formally requested Xi Jinping’s intervention following a ceasefire appeal made in Montenegro. According to the organization, that effort helped contain the escalation, and the same model of preventive diplomacy can be repeated today.

What OMPP proposes

The proposal seeks a high-level political agreement that secures a ceasefire, opens a permanent negotiating table and commits the powers not to use, or threaten to use, nuclear weapons. For the organization, peace cannot be left to the military dynamics of the front: it requires a political decision by those able to change the course of the conflict.

The closing message is direct: if the great powers can coordinate to trade and compete, they must also be able to coordinate to avoid a nuclear catastrophe.
