Faced with the multiplication of international conflicts and the risk of a third world war, the World Organization for Peace (OMPP · WOFP) is moving forward on two fronts at once: diplomatic efforts with the major powers and a worldwide interfaith mobilization inspired by the Franciscan idea that “the other is also you”.

The diplomatic track

According to the organization, the process began at the summit in Bishkek, capital of Kyrgyzstan, where China, Russia and India expressed an initial commitment against wars. OMPP states that the second stage is scheduled for 18 and 19 November, with a summit of the major powers that would bring in Donald Trump alongside Xi Jinping and Narendra Modi, aimed at agreeing a halt to armed conflicts.

An Argentine programme that embraces the world

In parallel, the OMPP presidency backs the programme “For a better future and a world at peace”, designed by Dr. Alejandro Roemmers, the organization’s Ambassador for a Culture of Peace. His proposal, the “World Embrace for Peace”, invites people to embrace loved ones, strangers, those who think differently and former adversaries.

The mobilization will have its focal point on 4 October in Assisi, Italy, and relies on coordinators and secretaries general in 185 nations.

Gatherings in each region

Argentina. The ecumenical meeting will be held at the Club Español, convened by Guillermo Pablo Mourelle (Ambassador for Argentina, Deputy Secretary General and Senior Crisis Adviser) and Pablo Francisco Romano (Ambassador for Argentina and Adviser for Institutional Affairs), coordinated by Rubén Grimaldi, Chief of Staff of the OMPP presidency.

India and Asia. Secretary General Nisha Kothari de Prakash will bring together Hindu, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Sikh and Jain leaders.

Russia and Europe. Dimitri Mokin will lead the gathering in the Russian Federation; Dr. Baroness Snjezana Rajacic in Belgrade (Serbia); and Dr. Eng. Giampiero Lembo in Italy.

Middle East and the Balkans. Dr. Prof. Muhammad Abdul Aziz Ahmed Al Baker will convene in the Persian Gulf and Osmo Vatres, president of the Balkan Club of Peace, in Sarajevo. An interfaith embrace will also take place in Jerusalem.

The initiative is also supported by Dr. Carlos Alberto Ferreyra (Ambassador-at-Large), Dr. Prof. Mehrdad Fojlaley (Türkiye), Dr. Gholam Reza Malek Mohammadi (Belgium) and, in the United States, Suzette Tirado (Washington and Los Angeles) and Dr. Eduardo Pérez Guerrero (Miami).

They are joined by the delegations of Bolivia (Luis Orta), Israel (Cesar Volko), Egypt (Amed Galala), Pakistan (Denish Kaneira), Nepal (Shanta Kumar Sbrestba), Japan (Masamuchi Sínoda), Switzerland (Morgan Chandana Delachaux), South Korea (Yong Jin Wi), Paraguay (Miguel Angel Maldonado), Sudan (Sultán Ahmed Dinar), Bosnia and Herzegovina (Mladen Karic), Cameroon (Dr. Fabrice Funiba) and the Union of African Countries (Abdalbasit Ibrahim Adam Abdalla), under the direction of Leonel Riviello (Governing Council) and Ricardo Trigo (Liaison).

With this deployment, OMPP seeks to show that peace is not only signed in presidential offices: it is also built in the hearts of peoples.
