The World Organization for Peace (OMPP · WOFP) has launched an international campaign to promote a “World Embrace for Peace” and, at the same time, called on the major powers to sit down at a dialogue table to halt the escalation of conflicts.

The proposal is driven by Argentine Alejandro Roemmers, the organization’s Ambassador for a Culture of Peace, and is part of the programme “For a better future and a world at peace”. Its focal point will be Sunday 4 October 2026 in Assisi, Italy, marking 800 years since the passing of Saint Francis.

An interfaith call across five continents

The campaign invites concrete gestures of encounter: among relatives, among strangers, and also among people who think differently or were once opponents. Ecumenical and interfaith gatherings will take place in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, with Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh and Jain representatives. The organization relies on secretaries general and coordinators in 185 nations.

In Argentina, an ecumenical meeting will be held at the Club Español, convened by Guillermo Pablo Mourelle and Pablo Francisco Romano, ambassadors for Argentina, and coordinated by Rubén Grimaldi, Chief of Staff of the organization’s presidency. In India, Secretary General Nisha Kothari de Prakash will bring together leaders of different faiths. Activities are also planned in Russia, Serbia, Italy, the Persian Gulf, Sarajevo and Jerusalem, among other places.

The appeal to the major powers

In parallel, the organization urges the United States, China, Russia and India to use their diplomatic weight to advance peace agreements and lasting ceasefires, and to move towards a summit with that goal.

The initiative thus works on two levels: a political call to governments, and a social and spiritual mobilization that seeks to make peace a global civic demand.
